Soundtrack and sound effects are top notch. Playing X-COM will give you a sense of unfolding mystery, as you research alien artifacts and learn about them or as you stumble aliens performing an autopsy on wild animals when you raid an alien base. This is not an ordinary turn-based strategy game with a generic story. This is achieved by the amazing atmosphere.

Once you get the hang of it, you will not be able to play anything else for a while and you will spend sleepless nights and even have X-COM dreams. X-COM gave me a similar experience that Football Manager does, in the sense that it is extremely addictive. But if you do invest some of your time and effort, X-COM will pay off. If you do not feel comfortable with complicated user interfaces and not willing to spend some time learning how the game plays (reading the manual or watching tutorial videos on youtube), you may not enjoy this. First things first, the user interface is not friendly to a newcomer. The original X-COM is often included in the lists of best games ever made and as an avid fan of strategy games as well as 90s PC games, I decided to end my embarrassment of never having played X-COM: UFO Defense aka UFO: Enemy Unknown.
